L293d Vs L293DNE
« on: May 06, 2010, 10:12:05 AM »
Hi,

I was looking for L293Ds to run my stepper motors but I find L293DNEs only on jameco.com. What is the difference between these two ?

Thanks,
RO.

What does the data sheet say?

What does the data sheet say?

Here it is (click on the User's Manual link)

https://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&pa=1341966&productId=1341966

It is confusing, it is only talking about L293 and L293D, not L293DNE.

Thanks,
RO.

Look at top package diagram on the first page of the data sheet and the Ordering Information and at the end of the data sheet is the package drawings. The 'NE' suffix is the package type, Plastic Inline DIP.

L293D is the original Unitrode Part number that was only available in one package (first line of data sheet) there for a package type suffix wasn't used.

The electrical difference is the L293 can output 1A per channel, while the L293D can output 600mA per channel and has output clamp diodes.

That's correct tim but the OP asked what is the difference between a L293D and a L293DNE.

Here, page 13: http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet2/f/0xt5w1akzx8dd88ewqdxi35wa9py.pdf

As far as i can tell, the L293DNE is just a subtype of the L293D, only that it's RoHS compliant (no lead).
