There is a survey out by Georgia Tech Mobile Robot Lab
titled Survey on Lethality and Autonomous Systems
. If you want to have a say in warfare robotics, now is your chance.
The survey starts out by saying:
The survey you are about to complete will lead to an analysis of public opinion regarding the use of robots capable of lethal force in warfare . . .
There are a total of 45 questions in the survey, of which about half are demographics questions; they are placed on 18 pages, including this cover page and the consent form. The time it takes to complete the survey should be approximately 15-25 minutes.
Not to spoil the survey too much, it asks questions covering various areas:
What is a robot?
Ethics of warfare.
Is it ethical for a robot to take a life, directed by a human or not.
Should robots be held to higher ethical standards than humans?
Who is the blame for an accidental robot killing?
Which emotions (if possible) would benefit a war robot?
My biggest complaint about the survey is that it didnt specify between robots with current state of the art, and robots capable of things in the movies. A huge difference!
