Servo controlling for increased reliability
« on: September 30, 2010, 07:23:17 PM »
I plan on using a servo for rotating a sensor package between several preset positions.  I am wondering if it would be acceptable to jump the servo directly between preset positions or if it would be better for the servo to take a series of small steps between those positions ???.  I know the small steps can be used as a method of speed control, but I will only be reading the sensors at the set positions and speed between positions (fast or slow) isn't important.

Hi,

If the servo isn't a very bad model, it shouldn't matter, as it will slow down when near the position, to not overshoot.
For the utmost in speed and precision, get a digital servo with a coreless motor. For everyday use, just get one that isn't too crappy.

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?
