use programmer for rs232 conction

hi

can i use a programmer and connect it to a atmega8 an control it with a computer?

If you are asking can you use your programmer for general serial communication then probably not. Most programmers will have an internal microcontroller which does programming only.

It is simple enough to add RS232 capability to any microcontroller with an RS232 line driver IC like the MAX232 also see the SOR UART Tutorial.

As for computer control, that will depend on your skill as a programmer. But even with no experience there are thousands of examples and tutorials available on the internet so go for it!  :)
