gluing HDPE?
« on: March 27, 2011, 01:05:32 PM »
So far, Google tells me you can't really glue two pieces of HDPE together reliably. What would the best way be to join two pieces of it at a right angle?

I want to add a piece to the bottom of a chassis to which I can attach idler wheels. I have a couple of these. I'm thinking in terms of attaching an idler wheel to a robot with.

If I can attach a side piece to the bottom of the chassis, and drill holes for the sprockets, I can attach the idler wheels to it.

Thanks

Joe

I doubt you can glue HDPE - or at least it wont be very strong. Other alternative, I guess, is to use a right angled metal bracket and screw the HDPE to that.

Hi,

You might get away with welding it.
(You didn't hear it from me ;) but a clothes iron will probably be aces, if you don't have access to a hot air welder).
Regards,
Søren

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?

for a right-angle joint your best best would be small aluminum or plastic angle bolted or pop-riveted to each piece.

Thanks all, I think I'm just going to use the right-angle brackets.
