Questions about Axon II and L298 Driver
« on: June 19, 2011, 01:59:53 PM »
Greetings, everybody!

I am in the planning stages for a new robot and have a couple of questions about the Axon II interacting with the L298 Dual Motor Driver.

I will be using 6V hobby servos as well as 12V gear motors. Obviously, I cannot plug 12V into the Axon because the servos will melt. However, I can plug a 6V battery into the Axon II and a separate 12V battery into the L298 bridge and that (as far as I know) will be fine as far as power in concerned.

My question is this: Do I need to plug in a 5V regulated power line from the Axon II into the L298 bridge pins as indicated at the bottom of "Wiring Diagram 2" of the datasheet (http://www.canakit.com/Media/Manuals/UK1122.pdf) *in addition* to the 12V input from the separate battery?

I believe the answer is yes, but the wording of the datasheet is ever so slightly confusing me for whatever reason...as usual. :P

Thank you for your help.

Argh!! I got it. I must have skipped the line that tells me to "provide your own 5V DC regulated voltage" while reading the instructions. The answer to my question appears to be "yes". Onward...  ::)

It's good you got it answered.

Remember to make sure the grounds on all your stuff are connected, or it won't work. (people often make this mistake)

Oh, there you are. Hi, Admin. :::waves:::

Needles to say, I will be buying another Axon II pretty soon. Hooray for you! I just need to order all the chassis parts and get them in order and working before I employ the microprocessor or build anything else. I am building a robot similar to airman00's "Chives" and wolffan's "Belvedere" creations. Collectively (along with a few ideas of my own), they have the form and functionality I am looking for.
