so i haven't posted for a while but thought you guys would be interested in this:

i've put some thought into getting range information for machine vision by calculating focal depth.
a device like this would mean that you did not have to do this by moving lenses but instead you could do it in software.

Thanks for sharing dunk. My colleague, who's hobby is planetary photography, was very excited to find out about such a device.

Hi,

Yeah, it sure sounds interesting, but I'll give it a couple of years to mature - it's not really ergonomic. Wonder if they gave any thought to why a DSLR looks like it does ;D

For machine vision and if pixel'd down a serious amount, it may sound promising - still, a couple of years should do it well, if they can sell it (as is) in reasonable numbers.
