On to my next robot...any suggestions?
« on: December 01, 2011, 12:42:27 PM »
So with Admin's amazing help and guidance, I was able to build my first robot (the voice recognition robot using the Axon II and Easy VR). Took me 2-3 months, and it was well worth it.

I will be further modifying the bot to obey different commands...but I believe I'm ready to move onto something that digs deeper into the Axon II and it's uses.

I dont mind a little programming as I just finished a C++ project for a battlebot which was a big success. It would be cool to do something with sensors. I also have been constructing a small RC car from scratch. So maybe incorporating that with the Axon?

Any suggestions? Please include links to tutorials if possible...

Did no one on this site have a suggestion for the next bot I should build with my Axon II?

Perhaps some kind of walking robot, or a robot with "artificial intelligence" of sorts would be good?

I've always been a huge fan of Hexapods, so maybe even one of those?
I'm currently designing and researching to make one as my second bot :)

Modify your voice recognition bot to be your butler :)

I assume due to the need for balance control?
I'm not a big fan of the quadrupedal bots, though I must say the bigdog is impressive!

Back on topic; Maybe an inflatable 'bot of some description, like the helium filled penguin 'bots etc etc?

edit: seems I can only embed, not link, sorry

Go for a swarm of bots.... either walking or wheeled... The AI involved in controlling the swarm is always a challenge...or perhaps a bi-ped would be more fun... ???
'crazy' is the new hype! =)

Would you be interested in making a simple four legged walker with Axon?   I have been making a four legged walker kit that is very cheap simple.  So far I have tested it with different Propeller boards, but some kind of AVR is a natural.  I haven't made any software for it except for the SPIN code.   I could send you the frame pieces and the servos, it's not difficult to assemble.

There's the "spider" kind of quad, too.  This is my friend's bot:

WOW! Thats some amazing stuff. I will do some research and see what I may be capable of. Maybe something like that would be something I can do as my final Bachelors capstone project. I had a pretty tough time just getting that little VR robot to work (took me 2-3 months), and that had a tutorial lol

Oh wow, they actually handle a lot better than I thought they would/do.

Love the little city layout in the vid lol :)

@ michealcollins
Triggered any ideas for your 2nd 'bot yet matey? :)

well, i'm still trying to perfect my first one. It's servo wheels had restricted movement, so I took em apart to modify them for continuous motion. Definitely a learning experience! So, hopefully I will be onto the next robo-venture soon =)

Ah nice matey :D
I remember being overly paranoid about mucking up the gears (removing them and not remembering how they go back) When I done my first cont. mod lol
But agreed, it's good to know exactly how to do it :)

Be sure to keep us update, Mike. Interested to see which you decide to go with :)
