Another PIC question

I'm trying to figure out which compiler to get for a Microstick with a PIC24, but I'm confusing myself because I'm not at all familiar with this world.

I'm thinking of getting this book to get some idea of what's what in PIC land. I'm assuming that 2011 is recent enough?

Anyone read this, have any thoughts?
