toy laser designator/ reflections detector

(1/1)

seandeg:
Hi to all,
am thinking of making a toy version of a laser designator /reflections detector system.
Environemnt would be a room, robot(tracked probably) to move around floor to seek out the object the reflections are coming from --- such as shiny metal box, plastic block, or a small shiny toy.
The user would designate the destination by shining laser at the object.

Question is really is this likely to be possible ? have not seen any projects doing this. But have come across projects where the 'target' has several laser emitting diodes attached, and detector is made from matching sensors.
I suspect that the intensity from laser reflections is just way too low for sensors to pick up.

Any advice on this much appreciated

Yes, within a normal size room. Modulating the LASER will make things a lot easier.

1 - Google.
2 - Ask specifc questions.

Thanks Soeren,

I will go ahead with that project now. As it progresses no doubt there will be problems. When I have something specific to ask for advice on, after some researching via google but not getting the answers,  I will return to the forum.

All the best,
Seán

Hi,

No way you can fail following that recepie :)

I'll just chime in that lasers generally shouldn't be toys. *shrug*
