question about photoresistors for 50 dollar robot
« on: August 27, 2007, 12:44:01 PM »
Dear Gents/Ladies,
I'm gonna try this out, and I'm gaining speed. But... I live in Italy, and Radioshack won't deliver to Italy (or accept my credit card). I have found/ordered almost everything except for the photoresistors. I have found an Italian website that stocks photoresistors, but I have no idea if the specs are ok for the 50 dollar Robot. I have copied the Italian specs below, could somebody have a look at them and tell me if they vaguely sound ok. I understand that they are in Italian, but most of the readings seem to be pretty international. I would really appreciate it. Ciao, Felix

Those specs look acceptable to me.

Just a side note . . .

You can also considering getting infrared emitters/detectors:
http://www.societyofrobots.com/schematics_infraredemitdet.shtml

Its works exactly the same, but just uses light your eyes cant see.

You can easily find them at most electronic part sites, including digikey. Just look for infrared diode and infrared transistors.

Dear Admin,
Thankyou kindly for the green light on the photoresistors, I was going beserk trying to find a soluion.

Regarding the side note, I am determined to follow through on the KISS technique for at least the first little guy. Once I've completed my mission, it shall be my plesure to take the robot apart piece by piece and start exploring the possibilities. Your reply is getting printed out and being placed in my "to do folder" for sure. If the photoresistors flop, it will be the next thing I do.... if the photoresistors don't flop. it will be the next thing I do....

Thanks again
Felix
