Can a servo controller control this motor controller?
« on: October 14, 2007, 04:01:32 PM »
Hi guys,
My bluetooth R/C car, mentioned in the past, currently uses two servos as mechanical method of switching polarity and controlling speed on the car.  I use a servo controller rather than a microprocessor.  Obviously, my method isn't the ideal (though it works very well, except that I can easily burn out the rheostat that I'm using).

I've found this piece of hardware:

It's got the standard 3wire servo connector on it.  Does this mean I can hook it up to my servo controller (Mini SSC II) and control it with byte values (0 - 255)?

yes,  I've used a unidirectional ESC, but this should be the same thing.  It simply works on a servo signal and translates it into an output.  The said "pushbutton" seems like that's what centers it so if you have a 128 (from your 0-255 range) (aka, ~1.5ms pulse width) output and you push the button that'll designate that the center, or if you have 6 it'll do the same, though leaving very little room for one direction.  I would assume it saturates at the other end as well.  the one I have is already pre-configured to have stop at one end and ramps up from there.  Well, hope this helps.

Thanks, that pretty much verifies what I thought.  Crazy though, that it costs more than the servo controller did.

I'd assume that it's plenty fast too *shrug*.

Not going to buy it yet, but it's good to keep such in my bookmarks.

just a note, http://www.servocity.com and http://www.dimensionengineering.com also have similar products (for controlling DC motors with servo signals)
