Robotics Noob Needs Help
« on: October 16, 2007, 09:21:58 PM »
hello, my name is vince. please forgive my complete ignorance on the subject.

heres my dilemma. my 3 year old daughter owns a stuffed toy puppy and she wants to make it follow her wherever she goes. could anyone of you point me to some simple plans on how to make her toy a motion-following, 4-legged walker?

another problem is i do not have access to robotic hobby shops where im located.

thank you in advance!

it walks and has IR sensors, it's meant to avoid objects but if you wire the left motor to the right and vise versa, it will follow objects

will it detect if the object is moving to the left or right?

or Would it simply follow objects moving on a straight path?

I recommend doing it like a photovore.

Attach a bright flash light to the ankle of your girl, and have the robot chase that light.

This is by far the simplest robot one can make. If you look around the web, you should be able to find cheap kits you can hack and put in the puppy . . . or make your own.
