cmu cam2 for line following

Approximately how close or far away from the board can the camera be used for line following?  Can it be 1.5" from the board and have a wide enough field of view to have smooth line following?

can the camera "see" there is an intersection of lines? will it outline the actual lines or just make a big black "blob" around the intersection? thanks
