not sure how you wold go about extracting a command from noisy background music though....
what about linking it in to your mobile phone for automated hands free dialing?
there was a comedy sketch on the radio here once that was about a GPS unit that had different regional accents for the different arias you were driving..... not very useful but a funny gimmick.
something to be aware of, the "12V" car power supply is *very* noisy. make sure you filter the power well before using it on delicate electronics.
you can get spikes anywhere up to 18V and down to 7V when starting the engine.
thanks for the heads up ! as for extracting the command from background noise , i guess it depends on wear the microphone is located. If its far from the speakers there may be no problem. Also , ill try to make the microphone as directional as possible , aiming at the drivers seat only .
Hmmm I was thinking of hooking it up to a phone, but realized that since I need to get wireless internet on it anyway from one of those special internet cards ( or perhaps just from a USB phone modem, meaning connect my fone to my computer through USB cable and dial through there) I know that it is possible to connect your phone to your laptop by USB cable that comes with the fone for uploading tones , etc. In fact I have gone online using my phones modem. So I could just dial through that modem using something like FoneSync ( if it still exists)
Or perhaps I could just use Skype and designate a phone number for the CarBuddy. Then dialling is easy .
The hardest part I'm guessing would be to rig "status sensors" , like to tell how much gas left, speed , etc.
Whatever , ill get an old car and then I can add whatever I want. To make the car look less junky Ill perhaps jsut add on a cool car body ( not the actual engine , etc. of the cool car)
