Bootloader on Robostix
« on: February 24, 2008, 05:24:20 PM »
Interested to install a bootloader on the Robostix so I can download my program to it via UART.

I've been reading the tutorials on how this can be done and I just have one question. The tutorials are aimed at the $50 micro-controller project.
http://www.societyofrobots.com/bootloader_50_robot.shtml

Can I follow this tutorial to install a bootloader on the Robostix using my AVR ISP programmer cable?
I assume that it is possible since Robostix is based on the ATMega128 microcontroller chip.

Second question, can I download I2C bootloader to the Robostix via my AVRISP programmer cable? The normal way to do this is via a gumstix, which I don't use. I do have the AVRISP cable though.

Yea if you have the gumstix you just down load the i2c boot loader once and then the boot loader hangs around and you won't need to use the UART jumper to program any more, just use the i2c loader program while the robostix is still in 'boot' with the flashing lights. I believe you can extend the boot time and do a number of things to make it easy to program. I seem to recall a way to make the robostix go into boot by using a jumper but I can't remember off the top of my head... any way have you checked the wiki?
