Face tracking webcam

Hey guys I have this webcam and it has a feature to follow faces. So if you move your face it zooms in and moves on it. I don't know how it does it but does it have any uses in robotics?

I have that webcam also 

logitech orbit webcam

Its on chives and I use it mostly whenever I want to drive chives remotely, it lets me pan and tilt the webcam without moving chives . also whats cool is that in roborealm i made a program for chives to drive and follow red color , with the camera panning as well.

So next question can you hack it and what range of pan and tilt does it have? Oh and is it cheaper then buying a standard webcam and buying a pan tilt for that.
