AVR STK serial port dongle programmer

i have just found out that the cable i was wanting to program the $50 robot cannot program the ATmega 8,i have been asked(buy the company i rang on the phone)if i the $50 robot chip can be changed to a PIC,also is there anywhere in australia that the AVR STK Serial Port Dongle Programmer
 can be purcahsed anywhere in Aus

If you have parallel or serial port in your PC you can easily make programmer yourself. Ponyprog is powerful and free  http://www.lancos.com/prog.html

yes it can just make the soldering and the wiring correct

With that programmer you can program virtually all AVR MCUs (except ATtiny 11 and 12 as I remember which are useless for hobbyist ), no matter how much your robot costs
