Wifi robot kits.
« on: May 01, 2008, 01:33:38 AM »
I'm new here and been looking around ya ll have some cool robots.
I've been looking in getting me a wifi robot kit something to patrol yard like
Spyke WiFi Robot Kit. What Wifi kit would you recommend I've been checking
them out on google but can't make up mind. Also instead of using what camera
they have on I like to replace it with  my mini Sony camcorder.

Any recommendation on Wifi kit will be greatly appreciated.

If you are looking for more of "kit" than a pre-built solution, check out http://www.surveyor.com/SRV.html?gclid=CNaDt8rl8oMCFUsbGgodukv2vQ

Have you considered trying to build your own?  I just completed a simple robot controlled over the internet using a Parallax BOE-Bot, a cheap "Spy Cam", cheap 433mHz serial transmitter/receiver, and free RoboRealm software.  I had a lot of fun learning all the aspects to put it all together and would be willing to share my experience.

Hi yes I've been thinking about building my own. I've been looking around here and some say start out with an RC truck and work your way from there, so that what I'm gonna do i
is get me an RC Truck try to make it look like this one called Markbot  they use over in Iraq,
its just a modify Traxxas RC Truck. I'm gonna order mine this weekedn or monday to get it started. I got to figure out how the arm work on the Marcbot. Here a pic of the marchbot they use.

There's an usual price. Robotshop has them for $5 per pair for the 2400 baud ones, and $7 per pair for the 4800 baud ones. The bitrate they quote there is for how fast the signal can change, which is twice of the max signaling rate.

Sparkfun has pretty much the same modules for roughly twice the price.

I'm think I'm gonna scrap the RC Truck wifi Ideal, I came up with something totally different. If some of yall watch Nascar now they now have a cam called the digger the goopher cam it pop's up on the track giving a track angle. I thought
hay why not do the same thing but make it portable. I'm gonna use a PVC Tube about 6" to 7" diameter, use plexi glass for the inside it will have two layer, the top will be the cam mount. The cam will pan, tilt, and zoom. The bottom base will be the Wifi electronics . Too make rise up and down I thought about using 2 servo or motor with wheels on a track that goes all the way to the top. On the bottom of the PVC tube I thought about using somekind of spikes so you can put it into the ground where ever you take it. It will be use maily for a wifi trail cam.

Let me know what yall think about this one.

pomprocker:  yes, I'm working on it... I still have a few more "tweaks" to work out, but I will be happy to write up a member page  tutorial.
