Don't forget to watch Mars lander Phoenix land today!

Today, may 25, the Phoenix Mars lander will land and send its first images. Don't forget to watch it!

Less than 2 hours left now! The live video sending starts in about 1 h 30 min though.

I'll be watching it.

They just put up the schedule. The exciting stuff starts about 7:40pm EDT. Touchdown at 7:53pm . . . then probably an hour of press releases and if we are lucky, crude pics from the lander.

The last 10 seconds were suspenseful . . . went from "1700 meters" to "80 meters" in like 5 seconds . . . got me worried a bit there . . .

Yay, a completely perfect landing! Landed with a quarter of an degree tilt. Thats really neat!

I got pretty worried with the tight landing as well. But was it really only 10 seconds? Felt like forever :P

i thought the whole thing was a goner when they decided to use thrusters to lower onto the ground...

Are you guys following their news updated?

I saw the one today and it's really interesting because they really describe everything very openly. They talked about the arm. It's folded up by now and they will use it to take photos under the lander to be able to see if the other two legs is standing stable. They need to know that before they start digging because it may cause the lander to tilt or move when the arm puts a force to the lander.
