What do you like the most about making robots?

After some posts in the sister tread i thought that thread got me too negative and unmotivated... ...so lets not forget the great parts of building robots!

The moments i feel absolute most joy in is when you receive a package that you've been waiting for. I can spend that whole day all excited about starting using these new parts.

I also love the times when you progress without encountering any problems and when you solve a problem and feel that you learned something from it.

There's also the long term feelings you get that isn't that strong but nevertheless great. It feels so great when I've started working and progressed a bit on a project that I dreamed a lot about so that i know for sure i will finish it. It's nice to feel that I'm living up to my dreams!

I agree with you....

Mostly when debugging or when the I finally get it working...
I feel like that even more lately... Cause I got involved with IC communication and such where studying the datasheets for hours is
needed and communication can get troublesome...

The moment I finally get it working.... it smells.... it smells like victory....

Robotics is passion not a trend... that is that many people miss and don't really get further...
Anyway, enough of me.... let's hear the others...

I love it when a robot finally works the way I planned , love it when i get new parts in the mail, and absolutely love it when I design everything beforehand to such detail that when I assemble it everything fits like a glove. I sooo love that feeling when everything fits together and works like I planned.

Its just a parody I whipped up of the song "A few of my favorite things" from the Sound of Music.

New parts arriving are definitely one of the things I like best (unless they are the wrong parts, see the sister post on hate).  There is nothing more satisfying than a completed project, when all the hard work, frustration and time finally pays off.

Haha well I didn't mean to drag anyone down on my thread xD

So what I truly love about robotics and engineering in general is not knowing how to do something, and figuring out that you can.

You keep thinking about it and its like you see tiny pieces you do know and you start putting it all together on your head.

After thinking about it more you see it all fully interconnected and working properly.  Implementing it can be a pain but its such pleasure putting stuff together you figured out in your head.

I definitely like the $$ robots bring me . . . for example I spend $500 on a robot . . . it impresses a client . . . and he gives me $2k for a project . . . I never feel bad spending money on robots cause it always has a nice return on investment

In college I spent like $3k on robots, and it got me my current job (which pays quite a lot more).

I also like making robots because it helps me understand the world around me . . . its like a buddhist zen wisdom thingy, that knowledge and understanding brings peace of mind

And of course, robots always gets the ladies
