Wireless accelerometer based mouse
« on: July 05, 2008, 04:41:20 AM »
We tried ATMEGA-16 based accelerometer mouse with CYWM 6935 wireless module. We used tilt property of accelerometer to map onto computer screen as mouse movement in X-Y plane....

Its really good attempt towards gesture recognition using low cost inertial sensors...

For complete description with SChematics & source code look at..

Sparkfun probably has the greatest accelerometer selection.  If you're looking for a good accelerometer at a low cost, you could consider Freescale's MMA7260QT 3-Axis accelerometer, which has selectable sensitivity (+/- 1.5, 2, 4, or 6 g) and outputs an analog voltage for each axis.  Both Sparkfun and Pololu sell break-out boards for this IC, but the Pololu version is smaller and includes an integrated 3.3 V regulator so that the board can be easily integrated into 5 V projects (you will need external electronics to use the Sparkfun version with a 5 V AVR).

We got most of parts as free samples....

1. ST LIS3L02 3-axis accelerometer from ST Microelectronics

2. CYWM 6935 from Cypress semi.  Link http://www.cypress.com/products/index.jsp?fid=65&rpn=CYWM6935

3.TC 1262 Regulator 3.3volt from Microchip semiconductor..

We are really thankful to them...checkout  http://coepetc.blogspot.com

If you want a gesture based mouse.  You can easily use a wiimote + bluetooth + windows + Glovepie.  with only 2 lines of code and a IR led sensor bar, you can use IR instead of an accelerometer.  With ir you can use pitch and yaw control rather than pitch and roll.  I've done this to play fps games ordinary intended for a mouse.  Its a cheap simple solution for this type of application.
