Building first RC car robot
« on: August 03, 2008, 09:25:07 AM »
I am now building my first RC car robot. this is pretty cool because this is the next step up from both of my old mindstorm robot kits.

i am going to use a servo controller to controll it. then you may ask HOW IN HECK ARE YOU GONNA DO THAT! first, from a laptop a wireless signal will go to the controller. then when the conroller trys to make a servo move i will use that power coming out to trigger a transistor. that transistor connected to staight to the battery will make the biger moters move

"i shall fail but i will fail with style!" :D

you'll need a special H bridge that converts servo pulse to motor speed and direction

another method that I've seen in some cars is to have the servos turn switches and pots to control the larger motors

do you want speed control on your robot or just fully forward or fully backward?

Or build a mechanical switching device that uses a servo.  And another servo to a rheostat to control speed (though burning out rheostats is pretty easy, too)

I've done this same general project using bluetooth:
