neat speech recognition module for microcontrollers
« on: August 24, 2008, 09:56:33 PM »
found this speech recognition module for $100 today:
http://www.thaieasyelec.com/index.php?lay=show&ac=cat_show_pro_detail&cid=402&pid=45789

Unfortunately there are no english translations that I can find, outside of the command summary:
http://www.mcudevzone.com/archives/Manual/Command%20Summary%20VAJA%201.pdf

And I'm too lazy to translate it . . . but if anyone is truly interested, I could answer any questions . . .

You can probably find enough in english for googling, like this device it uses:

I used the Sensory VR Stamp in my voice recognition Dalek, it works increadibly well. I have also designed the RSC4128 into a commercial toy.

So I'm curious, could this work for recognizing lots of different phrases? I'm looking for something comparable to what AI Bot did with his android Aiko. I know he wrote his own. I would love to write my own but I don't have any idea where to begin and I know that was PC based also so different ball game.

So what would this module be capable of? Can I get away with buying the $35 module or I do need to buy the whole $350 developers kit?

Based on other speech recognition products for robot:  it would be capable of detecting a few words that are each like 3 secs maximum and it can't do a complete sentence. I also think there are a maximum of maybe 80 words. You would tell the robot broken english and then it would respond.
Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!
