I just looked quickly through that page, and BASIC seems ten times as easy as C/C++ :S
Seems as C/C++ got a lot of more signs, and letters needed to create a code.

There must be some downsides by this?

BASIC is higher level, which means that although it may be easier to program, it has less functionality, and it is slower.
Porgramming langauges have a kind of hierarchy that establishes them in relation to assembly(fastest) and to HTML(I am constantly corrected that it is NOT a programming language)

The L in HTML stands for language, its just a highly specialized one

As for a language being slow, it depends on how good the compiler is.
