today i feel like being random, so here it is.

Do you think it is ethical to equip a robot with bottle rockets

please give all your reasons.

Is this an airborne robot that is using the bottle rockets for propulsion ?

this is all theory, im just curio on peoples thoughts on giving a robot a bottle rocket for any use.

Besides, that would have to be one long burning rocket to do anything useful.

Besides being pretty lethal................the bottle rocket robot would be a big job to construct, aim etc. You would need a lot of different systems to interact, and the forces involved are hard to predict/use.

Plus, if i'm thinking of the same rockets as you, water is a good idea to propel the rocket? Robots + water doesn't sound too great.

I'd say go for multiple projectiles like tennis balls, potatoes or very very small mushrooms.

lol, the main idea that comes to my mind is to equip a bot with some bottle rockets since they are not hard to make or buy and you would just need to make/buy some electrical ignitors.

You could also do multiple large rockets with fins so that you can control them and do all kinds of things, but those are just my ideas

My first thought when seeing your post was a parade-bot that participates in a Fourth of July parade. No ethical issues there, unless you consider the particulate matter and greenhouse gases that are emitted in the process. Also, a large enough quantity of bottle rockets might launch your UAV into low-earth orbit, though perhaps there are more efficient (and cleaner) means.

na no way man, the rocket would have to travel a minimum of 11 km/sec to escape the earth's gravational field.

hey gamefreak did you ever think of putting fireworks onto the robot instead of water bottle rockets? now that would be something.

AFAIK bottle rockets are a type of firework. usually they are cylinder in shape and have a skewer taped to them.

yea i did, but the only fireworks i know how to make are smoke bombs, and im unsure if i need soem sort of license or anthing in order to pack the chemicals and such.

And im too lazy(and cheap) to buy fireworks. A robot in a parade would be interesting but what if something happened? like all of them accidently ignited

You stick the skewer into the ground effectively sticking the rocket into the ground. Whatever you do, don't hold it by the stick and light it and keep holding it. I speak from experiance.

lol, the worst firework accidnt i've ever had was: getting shot in the leg with what i thought was a dud, puttin aeiral shells in backwards.....Twice, or having a firecracker explode about a half inch from my hand(boy i hate those black cats)

man u guys in america are lucky. down in new zealand all of the good fire works have been banned because of people messing around with them and last year they almost got banned completely.

actually, fireworks normally do get banned nearing the forth of july, but really noone cares, if we start a fire then we try to put it out.

Last year (when i put the sheels in backwards) the cops actually came and patrolled for 10 minutes or so to see who was lighting them, when they left we started again.

They are illegal almost everywhere, but you just go to the nearest city tht has them and get some.

it actually kind of funny because each year its on the news about fireworks being illegal, and the only restriction i get is my mom not letting us get bottle rockets.

Now what would happen if we equipped a robot with a high resolution camera and plenty of bottle rockets with a garunteed ignition source, and had it programmed to shoot at moving things..... would that be ethical

re: the illegal fireworks, we only get fireworks like 2 days before guy fawkes day and it is illegal all other days.

gamefreak, if your mom won't let you buy bottle rockets because she thinks they are dangerous, then you could build a robot that lights them and shoots them off and she might let you get them, and then when she isn't around you can have some real fun with them

I think a robot shooting bottle rockets has a higher chance of something bad happening vs a person shooting them.

I think at this point we have blown our noses with ethics and tossed out the window so now I feel it is a good time for my two cents

. The concept you want to examine for the guidance system would be Proportional Integral Control see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportional-Integral-Derivative_controller . This would give you the varying position of the moving object and one could derive a lead time for the shot. a high res camera wouldn't be needed just tie in some radio-frequency proximity detectors into a network of LM380 Op-Amps to decide which direction the robot should aim.
