weighing objects

I'm new to building robots, is there any way to implement a weight scale or something that could weight an object and differ what it does with the object based on the weight? i was looking at load cells but not sure if those are the best route to go.

Try a Flex / Force sensor you would need to interface it with some other hardwar but is should work.

I would rate this as a great beginner level project, you shouldn't have too many problems.
