got Japanese robot competition schedule?
« on: November 12, 2008, 03:42:56 AM »
There is a good chance I'll be in Japan from late February to around mid March of 2009. As such, I was looking around for robot competitions/events/places to check out around that time. I need to plan this trip months ahead so that's why I'm asking now.

Anyone know of any? I especially want to see a biped competition . . . but haven't found any during that time :'(

edit: found this but it doesn't have 2009 yet

For competitions, that is a horrible period. Absolute none. Until this year we had flying robot contest in late March by now it is in October.
Most of the competitons happen in July(biped robot contests and robo-one events are mainly here), September/October and December. Spring is mostly for announcements and registrations.

Now, about events, I know about 2 that are still NOT confirmed yet. One is from a university called Tokyo Institute of Technology which willl be mainly an expo of their current projects and it should be around 16th of february. The other one is here in Tsukuba! We are preparing some expo about Cybernics(dont cofuse with cybernetics) but that should be around mid or late March.

I will see if there is anything else and post later.

I just got this email from Lem . . . it appears Robo-One will be in mid March, so I can shift my plans a bit to make that hopefully.

Tsukubadaisei, will you be in town? Probably won't make the TIT event, but keep me updated about the Cybernics! (what is Cybernics?)

Assuming that you'll be in the Tokyo area, a
visit to the robot shops around Akihabara is an absolute must (check
the map on my website). A weekend (Saturday or Sunday) is best since
some of the shops have some days they are closed during the week.
There are several other locations, like the Miraikan science museum
(regular ASIMO demonstrations and other robot exhibitions), including
some that I haven't checked out yet (the new Cyberdyne showcase in
Tsukuba).

Competitions depend on the area, of course, and there isn't much going
on usually in February. ROBO-ONE 15 will be held sometime in March -
usually the middle of the month, but they haven't released the firm
dates yet.
