AVRISPmkII connection failed problem on $50 robot
« on: December 26, 2008, 04:00:00 PM »
hi i went through the $50 robot tutorial and i am stuck at the programming part.
I am using the AVRISPmkII programmer, and I am having a problem connecting to the circuit.  I am using an ATmega168 IC in the circuit and as i am using a breadboard, i checked more than 20 times that all the connections are correct, including the ones that connect to the micro controller..

I went through the programming steps, and when i pluged in the circuit to the programmer, BOTH the green LED's are on.  When i try to connect to the circuit (tools>avrprogrammer>conect... or autoconnect), the window pops up after a few seconds saying, "connection failed."

What could be the problem?  Both LED's are on, is it because i didnt follow the programming steps correctly, or the chip/ programmer has blow because of a short circuit?

Any Help is appriciated...  Thx in advance :(

I am having the same problem. Both green LEDs are lit but AVR Studio reports "connection failed". I have tried all 4 USB ports but it is the same. How exactly was this problem solved?

I had that same issue, It was resolved by downloading the newest version of AVR Studio and updating the firmware of my AVRISP MKII programmer.
