Choosing a sharp Ir rangefinder
« on: January 20, 2009, 08:36:10 PM »
Hello, I was looking for rangfinders and there was one with a scanning range of about a foot and another with 5 feet. I am going to be using it mostly indoors and I was wondering which one would be better?

Hi,

Nobody but yourself can answer that, since it is you who decides what it should be looking for.
The size and speed of your robot/vehicle/whatever will determine how far you need to "look".

Søren

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?

Try not to get a digital one. These have set ranges (most probably the one that you looked at was a digital one)

Hi,

Some have "digital range", i.e. one set point and an output of either 0 or 1
Some have digital output, i.e. 0 to 255
Some have analog output i.e. ~0.3V to ~3V

Søren
