When I try to upload the program it says Device is unknow. What is wrong?

have you selected the wrong COM port in settings than what you are using?

I think its safe to assume your using PonyProg..

In support of Frodo's pot:

click on the "wrench icon" and tryto play around with the different ports there. Soon you'll hit on the right one

it all depends on which is "connected". Yes just play around until you find the right COM port

Agreed. the COM port is usualy the problem

I probed each COM and COM came back ok but it still says device is missing or unknow

Have you tried restarting your OS sometimes its just decided it wants to be annoying.
