robot chassis made of PVC pipe design
« on: March 03, 2009, 08:47:59 PM »
Hi-
I am making the $50 robot and was thinking about making the chassis out of PVC pipe so I could mount stuff on if better(and it would be sturdier)
I attached a photo of what it may look like (I made it in 3D canvas(CAD software))
I just want to make sure the servos(specified in the tutorial) are strong enough to pull it all (only having 2 in the front and free spinning wheels in the back)
BTW it is 3/4 inch PVC pipe:

IMO, PVC is a poor choice for a chassis.  It's strength/rigidity to weight ratio is very low - meaning that in order to get a decently rigid and strong chassis, the weight will be quite high.  Aluminum, steel, Sintra (expanded PVC), plastic and even wood are better choices than PVC.
