need help modifying a servo

OK i am building the 50$ ROBOT AND THE TUTORIAL ON MODIFYING THE SERVOS SAYS TO REMOVE THE PART THAT KEEPS THE POTHEAD SPINNING WITH THE GEARS, BUT i am using the HS-311 and that part is not separate from the main gear, it is all one piece.
