Motor Control

Hello. I am looking to make my own RC car to better understand how it works. I already have one but I would like to make one on my own. My question is, if I could make my own speed controller, how would I signal a motor to from my Transmitter? Will I need a logic circuit?

Could you go in to more detail about what transmitter and receiver you are using? Standard RC stuff? Custom?

yeah sure I plan to use the Laser 6 from Hitec and a hitec reciever maybe 4 channel. Any other details you need?
