microcontroler comparison?
« on: October 06, 2009, 08:14:26 PM »
so i'm thinking of a better micro then my arduino which although good is also annoying at times and not ideally suited to robotics. i also find it self defeating having an open source microcontroler that doesn't interface too easily with standard protoboards (the jacks arn't alligned with the holes on the protoboard) and arduino shields are often uber expensive! axon looks uber but i'm even thinking of getting a basic stamp for it's small size and the fact it fits in a chip socket.

Make a board along the lines of the $50 Robot, kind of like what I did with this PIC:

Use a chip of your choice, and design something like that. Plus it's nice to have something that you made based on your own plans that works. :)

You don't want a basic stamp - it'll make the Arduino look like a super computer. Serious.

Plus, Stamps don't have ADC.

(I'd say buy an Axon, but I'm incredibly biased and financially motivated :P)

hmm i've been thinking of making one. god knows i have every resistor and capacitor value imaginable at my disposal (a very poorly guarded college parts bin :P). plus i've already got some pics too. speaking of which i've got this pic16c57 and a 24lc16b eeprom for an old bs2 project. any way i could get some use out of those? i think i'm going to read the datasheets on these to experiment (and hopefully not fry) these. @admin: one day when my pockets are a bit deaper :P the axon has always been my Turbo-Man so to speak

I think its ~$12 if I remember right, it'll say before you make the purchase. Orders to Canada go UPS.
