This claims to be the smallest . . .

but I'd say this is even smaller and more suicidal . . .

My biggest question is how do both of them control how much lift they're getting?

I don't know either, they don't have the ability to change the angle of attack of the roater blades.

The way the blades work is that as throttle is increased the positive pitch is increased causing more lift (altitude). Forward - Aft movement as well as Left - Right movement are controlled by tilting the rotor head in each given axis. The counter rotating blades negate the need for any type of yaw control however yaw I'm sure is achieved by the pilot turning his/her seat as in a hang glider setup.
