TCP/IP & fingerprint project

I want to do a network communication TCP/IP project that related to telerobotics
The project needs to control a device like motor, camera, robot or other device
I need any help OR advice
I search after existent or in developing devices that controlled by network communication in order to receive ideas for the project
Also I search after good internet sites with information OR forums OR codes in C OR project books OR companies that develop innovative / interesting / unique things in network communication OR telerobotics platforms kits that only need to compute socket program in C  


also I want to do another project that recognize fingerprint
and I want to buy a scanner for the finger and design a matlab code for the recognition
I find this devices but I don't understand the deferent between two devices
