Which Microcontroller?

I am creating an Intelligent mobile robot for my thesis. my scope is to create a robot mapping wherein the robot will remember maps. what microcontroller is best for this project? I would also like to create a development board for the microcontroller to burn my codes. thanks in advance!!!  ;D

Well, what do you need the robot to control, how many sensors? How many actuators? How many other things?
Take a look at some of the tutorials on the main site, i believe there are a few about mapping.
