Programming with the Arduino
« on: December 21, 2009, 02:20:03 PM »
hello all,
I'm getting the Arduino starter pack from MAKE

soon and i was wondering what programming language i need to learn. I was researching this and  found that some people use c and other use a c-like language called wiring.... I was wondering which would be better and where to learn them ( websites, good books, etc) thanks in advance

Wiring is the "Arduino language" and is implemented in the Arduino IDE you can download for free at http://www.arduino.cc/

It is really C with a couple of shortcuts and some libraries. You can stick with that, or move on to plain C if you wish.

Excellent tutorial for c, covers each component step by step and tests you after every step.
I used this tutorial a while ago and it worked wonders.
Of coarse, writing up your own programs helps you learn so much more than this so be sure to write up practice programs etc if you can.

I have been using the 21 day course one. Of course you don't have to it in 21days it is really 21 chapters.

No. 21 days is just the name of the course, originally a book. You can go at your own pace. I have been doing a topic or two then play around with what i have just learnt to get it into my head.

So no you can take as long as you want and the chapters are quite long so you may want to spread them out.

You might be able to do it in 21 days but don't force yourself through it other wise at the end you will think what have i learnt and you won't have taken in what you wanted as you were rushing so to speak.
