electrostatic adhesion
« on: August 06, 2013, 01:23:30 PM »
I'm currently trying to make an electrostatic adhesion mat. I've found a few tidbits of information on how to create the physical plate. What I don't understand is exactly how much voltage I need in order to make this sucker work. I've found a couple of products / videos online claiming they can hold around 2 lbs with only 4 AA batteries. I hooked my mat up to 24v with no results what-so-ever.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks!

I'll guess that they are using hundreds or maybe even thousands of Volts on the plate but very, very little current. That means they are using a Voltage boost circuit that is powered from 4 AA batteries.
Think photo flash circuit and static electricity.

When you use those plastic wraps for food they develop hundreds of Volts charge when pulled from the roll. This change is what causes them to adhere.

thanks for the post, Waltr.

I just need to find out how to make that voltage boost circuit :P I just don't know what the ideal amount of voltage would be. I'm definitely stuck, right now lol.

Google will find you lots of circuits.

One that might work is the circuit from electric flyswatter.

or bug zapper, electrostatic generator, ion generator
