I was just wondering
How sad it is to see a user with only 3,10 post
that hasn't logged on in like 3 years
Like, mabye they went on and built many robots
but mabye they just gave up
I THINK THATS SAD !!!
I don't like people to give up
They should keep on trying
Because i used to be one of the people who gave up all to easily...But it's not HEALTHY to do that all your life!
And the poeple that may of been on about 3,10 post
could of become a master robot builder!
AN "ADMIN 2"
Oh dear....
I should sleep this madness of!
-
I don't have nearly that many posts, but I am feeling a little depressed with the way my robot is going. With you know, my entire control system not working >:( So yea, I may give up soon on it, but not without a fight, because this is something I want to do!
PS Edit your Subject line, you spelled "sadness" wrong.
-
think logically , work hard , dont say i did my best,, do better
and it WILL work,,if it does not, try again ;)
-
your making me feel all sad. :'(
-
Instead, think of all the souls SoR really do have awaken!
-
im one of those sadly :( Havent built on my robot for a long time. Doing other things and havent really bothered taking the time to work on my robot couse its so time consuming, even tough i love it :D
PS: Think u ment "A sadness among SOR" instead of "A sandness among SOR" =)
-
toughness and challenge is all you need to prosper in life , why do you think that making a robot is time consuming and hard work think of it as fun , think of it as you are creating something that has its own brain and its going to work on its own., The juvilence of seeing your robot on which you have worked so hard is really out of this world and once you get that feeling you will never get disheartened when you fail and youll try to make byourself better for the sake of creating an intelligent being

OH, C'MON
NOW I FEEL A GREAT DEAL OF SADNESS

but also think about the other 1862 members that are here

And do not forget that even if one tries to build a robot, they will always have something with them even if they did not succeed.
Also, I left the game developing area for robotics. Maybe all these people moved on to a different interest. I do believe that most people that even tries to build a robot is a fairly creative and motivated person, so i have no worry for them wasting their lives not building robots.
My guess for why this is, is that you have to buy some physical parts in order to get started. If I wouldn't have needed to buy anything, i would have started with robotics much earlier than i did, and when i finally thought i would buy some parts, I thought it was a pretty wild choice.

Robot building is like a disease, albet a good disease. It is very contagious to people of like mind, and while the disease somtimes might go dormant for a period of time where no robots are built, eventually it comes back to the surface and takes hold again. Probably not my most poetic analogy, but it works...

I think SMASH is one of those who has given up, he hasn't been on the forum for a long time......

Well, I haven't really looked at the amount of offline users since I'm kind of new to the game here and too busy reading all the incredibly interesting and inspiring posts!! ;D This place rocks!!
More important than the non-active users are the ACTIVE users. Don't be sad my friend, we are still many!

For the record, I'm one of the low post counters and I look at my robot (in pieces) guiltily every day. I had such grand plans for the little thing, like avoiding obstacles and you know - working. Alas, as time went on, I got fed up with Windows, switched to Ubuntu and haven't gotten around to getting my development environment established. Of course much of my time has been consumed by EQ2 and getting it running properly in Wine.
So you see how easy it is to get sidetracked from a wonderful pastime such as robots? I still plan on working on my robot and getting it to work... eventually.
-
Post count has nothing to do with anything.
Repeat that until it goes through your head, all of you who thing post count is relative and of substance. On other forums, they mean nothing. Less time here is more time on a robot.
True skill, comes from the brain. Lets compare brain size or something, then yer talking something real.
Oh and yes I am experiencing heavy sandness rofl.
-
switched to Ubuntu
ubuntu fan myself
I dual boot XP and Ubuntu on my laptop ( I removed vista , bleh ) , I suggest you dual boot as well
-
I just got my development environment working last night. I'm a seriously inept at avrdude, but it's working now.
Here's what I'm using:
IDE - Code::Blocks
Programming software - AVRdude
Programmer - AVRISP MKII
So far I really like Code::Blocks. It loads up so much faster than Eclipse. I'm still pretty new with it and am trying to figure out the build options. Avrdude is a cinch to install with apt (sudo apt-get install avrdude) and works well. I haven't gotten around to installing a GUI for it, though. Just been saving my scripts.
Honestly, if I had to dual boot to do something, I would probably just find something else to do. There is such a sense of accomplishment when you get things working, even the small things.
-
oh, yes defiantly ubuntu over windows
I run a virtual machine on my laptop running ubuntu, vista, and Mac Tiger
-

When replying to a post, underneath the text window there is a link called: Additional Options... Click on that, and then click the Browse button, navigate to the folder you have the picture on your computer (e.g. C:\My Documents\My Pictures\) select the picture you wat to insert (test.jpg) and after you write your post, click on the Post button. The picture will be uploaded on SoR server and will be displayed at the end of your post, like this:
