Hi people!

I'm just new on this site and want to introduce myself to you. My name is Albert van Breemen and I'm from the Netherlands. A few months ago I started a website on robots called http://www.personalrobotics.nl. I publish all my projects on this site.

My latest project is the '50 euro robot project'! But I saw that also a $50 robot project exists on this site

It seems that we all want the same: have fun with robotics but for an affordable price! I will soon start publishing more information on how I manage to build a robot for 50 euros. Meanwhile I have a short movie on the results so far published at http://www.personalrobotics.nl.

Im traveling Europe right now so I was a bit amused by the 50 euro title . . .

Some of the members to this site are located in europe, and often mention frustration with the fact that it costs more to buy robot parts within europe (shipping, for one thing). I think you have a challenge ahead of you

Keep us updated! Im interested in how others would approach the same problem.

Hey Albert
I saw that in your 50 Euro robot video you are using the Arduino board, I'm planning on getting that for a robotics project that I plan to enter in this sites tutorial contest, I was wondering how well suited the Arduino is for robotics applications; like is the software user friendly, and does the board look likes it put together pretty well? Your the first person that Ive seen make a working robot with the Arduino.

By the way, I indeed bought my parts in the USA because it was cheaper.

The Arduino board is very VERY easy to use. One problem I had was with the USB driver that came with the software on the Arduino site. But I went to the official site of the chip manufacturer and downloaded the latest driver version. An other problem I currently have is when the board gets its power supply not from USB but from a battery, the program won't start. I have to mention that I'm just jusing the board for 2 days now and I do not read many manuals

maybe I should

The board is cheap and has sufficient I/O possibilities for a simple project like mine.

I hope to finish my article/report soon and I will publish it on my website (but will also let you know here!)

Is the driving mechanisme one of theese with wheels: http://www.pololu.com/products/tamiya/0061/ ?

And if it is can u both drive and turn with it? Couse the front wheel is just a support wheel right?

Use some common sence. look at the diagrams. Each wheel has it's own motor and gearbox. so you can do a diferential drive with it.

Hi Sotu,

Yes I've used the Tamiya 70097, the one you gave a link of. There are three configurations of how to assemble this gearbox, but only configuration results into two independently controlled wheels! This is the 'C-type' configuration. The A and B type configurations result in high speed of the wheels, but both turn in the same direction. The C-type result into 'low speed' (fast enough for me) with two independent wheels.

I ordered at Sparkfun, which was the cheapest!

Can the gearbox turn? Is there 2 seperate sticks each driven by 1 motor each? So only left side of the visible metal stick can drive forward and the right bakcward or the opposite making the gearbox able to turn?

Hi,

Yes, there is one configuration (called type "C") in which each stick is driven by a seperate motor, so the gearbox can turn!

Is the type called "C" a pack with a gearbox called "C" type? or is it a program u have to use to use to adjust the gearbox?

I just found this picture showing that the left and right side of the stick is different colors (Green and Red) And i would then assume it was 2 seperate sticks, each driving by 1 motor each. If not its colored each half stick in different colors!

And about the reading posts, if many people start telling different things i want an assurance that what ure telling me is right!!

Yeah i can use it for my project. But im a little confused if i have to use a computer software to send information to the circuit card which will be sent to the gearbox. But after getting responds from people i now see that the metal stick on the gearbox is 2 seperate sticks each controlled be 1 motor each. So the gearbox can turn!
