whoa . . . it has a jerky control system, inefficient motions . . . but mechanically im really impressed by its thin form factor . . . and the fact that it almost works perfectly . . .
im willing to bet that its battery life is 20 minutes . . . but still, impressive . . .

This is the third in the series. My university has gotten the second one (a blue one you can see in the background). Useless ASIMO looks like cr@p compared to those.

At the end of the movie you can see the operator remote controlling the robot. That is why I said too bad for the last images... I meant too bad it's remote controlled, not autonomous.

Oh that explains it . . . The fact it can fit all those batteries is cause there is no big computer taking up that space . . . this also explains some of the jerkiness.
I thought you meant too bad at the end cause the bot drops the drill accidentally . . .
Anyway, ASIMO is mostly remote controlled, too . . . minus the lack of a hip joint I really like the mechanical design of this bot :)

use babelfish to translate or ask someone to read for you. The info is written in the 7th paragraph: It is a 48V Ni-H battery and it can work from 60min to 122min.

The first ones were Wabot series and WHL-11. ASIMO has already 9 different versions full of high-end technology but can do nearly to nothing. It just looks cool. That is why people like it.

It is both, according to the link above. My university has HRP-2 (the previous version) and they use it as an autonomous.

48V NiMH means 40 cells. That thing must use enough current to require at least "C" cells to run for that long. That is quite a burdensome battery pack.
