Which is the best actuator for precise minute movements?
« on: October 03, 2006, 02:21:24 PM »
Does anyone know what is the best type of actuator for moving in very minute and precise movements continuously, over and over used with a USB control system?

Would it be a solenoid.. or a stepper motor.. or a servo.. or a linear actuator?

This would need to be pretty small too. The robot will only have a couple inches of travel.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Sounds like a stepper motor is what you want. If you can't find one that has exactly the precision you need, pick the closest and use gears to adjust the precision.

Thanks for the response, Gopher! I'll start researching those.
