$50 robot question... RE: LED light...

Hi guys,

I'm just getting into robotics and in the process of making my first robot...

I believe I've finished building my micro-controller now and just wondering if the LED light is suppose to come on when I power on?

I checked and double checked my connections... I also don't think I've 'smoked' anything yet..., just wondering how can I tell if the 'brain' of my $50 robot is alive or perhaps dead...

Oh! Then I guess I should proceed to programming it!

I thought the LED would come on after power on like other typical appliances... and thought that perhaps I screwed something up!

Okay, new problem...

I'm using the $34 AVRISP mkII programmer... when I connect it to my micro-controller thru USB, the light on the programmer turned green, but AVR Studio continued to tell me connect failed.

What's up with that? What else can I be doing wrong?

ground and v seems to be flipped compared to the schematic I downloaded...

Is this really correct?


I tried it that way and the green light wouldn't even come on. With my original way, the green light would turn on...

But either way, AVR Studio couldn't connect...   help!

Moving this up...

BTW, when we plug in the programmer, shouldn't something show up on my taskbar? Such as when we plug-in other usb devices, we'd need to click on the green arrow icon to stop it when done...

How come the programmer doesn't do this? Perhaps my issue is software related?
