good starter MCU

can any one tell me about a plug and play MCU that i can use for prototypes? It would also good if it came with a book about it. Thank you

I would recommend an avr based mcu so that you get the most support from the forum. Specifically I would an arduino or variant.  If you want to breadboard get a boarduino www.adafruit.com .  If you want something you can connect sensors to easily get a roboduino. The other option is a standard arduino.

use net medias bx-24p chip. Its really powerful, and when bought with the RAMB II motherboard is literally 'plug in and play'. Whats cool as well is that the language is called BASICX and is similar to basic, which makes it incredibly easy to learn.

im going to say roboduino or axon.
they are both amazing mcu's and they are both made by people on this forum ;D
the roboduino is ~$50 the axon is ~$100.

Hi,

For a beginner, I would recommend the BASIC Stamp (over any AVR board) http://www.parallax.com/tabid/295/Default.aspx
It has got quite a following, is easy for a beginner to learn and is well supported from Parallax.
