wanna choose 'Robotics' as career, need advice

hello sir/madam,

I am studying 'Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE)' in an Indian university (BITS,Pilani-Goa Campus) and I wish to choose Robotics as my career but I dont know what it exactly means. I just know that I am very much interested in making the things work and move.

Could you please suggest me the following things:-

1) Can I do MS in robotics ?
2) What are the pre requisites for it
    or What can I do at the moment for it as I am in 3 rd year of mine
    bachelor's degree ?
3) Are there any specific courses that can be done for it along with my degree 
    course that I am undergoing ?

CMU is by far the best for a masters/PhD in robotics. UPenn has a masters in Robotics. The second two questions are somewhat synonymous. You should take some mechatronics/electromechanical courses as well as courses in computer science. Another useful course is algorithms.
Also try to get involved with as much research, roboclub, etc as you can.

Yea I agree on CMU.

Id say the best way to make robotics your career is to start making robots now as a hobby.

courses anyone should take:
circuits I and II
electromechanics/mechatronics
intro to mechanical engineering
controls
computer science (the first 3 levels of programming)
computer vision
AI
a machine shop training course

Grad school for robotics is HIGHLY competitive and very selective . . . I wish you luck!

Our university offers 'Artificial Intelligence' as an elective. I shall take it up next semester. Currently I am undergoing study of 'Electromechanical Energy Conversion', 'Digital Electronics and Computer Organization' and 'Control Systems' as a part of my curriculum. I shall try participating in robot making compeititions henceforth.

As Admin suggests, robotics work is unique in that it combines the disciplines of computer software, electronic circuits, and mechanical design.  For the best chance of success, you need to develop your skills in all 3 areas, and a good way to start is to build robots on your own that require programming, wiring, and design/assembly.
