in reserching the sharp IR sensor to create a moderatly complicated array of rangefinders, I came up with this possible cause of noise.

the sensor works on triagulation. so if the system is vibrating, the angle of detection is changing. therefor percived range is changing, meaning noise.

solution would be to damp the sensor from high frequency noise.

lower frequency vibrations would have minimal effects in terms of ranging from the sensor, but may induce errors in a scanning mode by changing the location of the sensor during the scan.

I have yet to test this as I do not have a rig set up. Im working on modifying my calibration rig, but need a vibrating platform.

comments on this theory would be nice. Ill try and sset up an experiment to evaluate the effects.

Nope, not vibration - it still happens with nothing moving.
