Do you mean augmented microcontroller? Go to the main site and click on parts list->microcontrollers.

its not a matter of picking the BEST micro, its a matter of picking the best one for your project
, for example if your project needs only uart then why spend money on somthin that supports i2c spi ..... . . .. . . . . .etc ?
tell us what do u plan to do and we can suggest u a micro

wat to choose totally depends on wat u intended to do , i suppose ur a newcomer so i recommend u to choose the simplest one available and play with it then go for higher projects

true. it depends on what you need it for. some people could be considered fans of a certain brand.

Ok, Yes I am new... And I have found this Microcontroller, Plz tell me if it is not a good choice. I plan to plug the following items onto the board...

2x DC Motors
IR
Sonar
And eventurally a camera...

Oh and I wish to program it through C or Java Script

Now if you recon this virturaly impossable for me to accomplish, don't hesitate to send a reply :D

Now the Microcontroller is called    ATtiny26    And if this picture works, well here is a picture of it!

And if i didn't Google image it!  ;D

2x DC Motors
you need 2 pwm outs

IRa , sonar
you need an adc

And eventurally a camera...

a good amount of ram

also depends on the type of camera interface the camera supports (i2c ,parallel, ...etc)

The only microcontrollers that can be programmed with Java that I know of are the OOPic series, a PIC based augumented microcontroller, and the IntelliBrain series, a AVR based augumented microcontroller.

My favourite is the IntelliBrain2, mostly because it uses an AVR and it has excellent documentation, lots of features and computer controll possibilities.

camera's are advanced, you should start with something simpler.
For choosing between microcontrollers there are two big competitors: PIC and AVR. Both are good choices.

Don't program your robots in Java, it's very processor intensive. C is the best choice.

My to faves are first BasicATOM  www.robotshop.ca/home/products/robot-parts/microcontrollers/basic-atom-microcontroller-en/index.html   they have lots of ram 2k bytes!!!! and program space 32K bytes!!! and they are fast 100,000 BASIC instructions a second!!!!!!!! and they are progamed in BASIC my second favorite is PICAXE http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/categories.php?cPath=51_124 they are also programed in BASIC but are slower and have less memory but they are much less expensive.
