$99 HP TouchPad being sold again, very limited
« on: December 09, 2011, 08:44:40 AM »
I managed to get one during the first round. And if you're really lucky, on Dec 11th you might be able to as well. It makes a really great travel 'computer' and possibly one day a bluetooth robot controller . . .

The HP TouchPad:

More info on the announcement:

And I *think* it will be sold here:

My opinion of it? It's definitely worth the price, but also really lacking compared to say a $300 laptop.

I got one during the first round as well. I enjoy using it a lot. Besides being a great tablet, I'm currently working on a bluetooth robot controller as well.

Got the basics of reading sensor data from the Axon set up. Now I'm working on sending commands to the bot. There is just something vastly more entertaining about manipulating an digital version to control the physical robot than punching some keys to accomplish the same task.

Keep me updated, I'm very very interested!

One of my big complaints about it is it's total lack of foreign language support. I can't read squares . . .

Which is the language of...?  (Not LEGO Land at least)  ;D

Søren

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?
Please remember...
Engineering is based on numbers - not adjectives

Well, it only has an English language keyboard. Supposedly it uses Unicode fonts, but I've tried loading others into the fonts folder without luck. Any language/font it doesn't recognize literally becomes a series of squares. I have another idea, but I'm afraid of bricking it (again) so I've been putting it off . . .

Specifically I mean Thai . . . I'm quite dependent on it with my social circle and current location :P
